Employers across Canada Encouraged to Register Now for 2012 Take Our Kids to Work™
TORONTO, Sept. 5, 2012 /CNW/ - The Learning Partnership is putting out a call-to-action encouraging employers to mark their calendars for their annual initiative - Take Our Kids to Work™ day - which this year is on Wednesday, November 7th.
Every year, 250,000 Grade 9 students across the country participate in The Learning Partnership's Take Our Kids to Work™ day. This nation-wide event provides students with the opportunity to spend the day at the workplace of a parent, relative or family friend, learning basic business and life skills. More than 75,000 employers participate annually.
"Take Our Kids to Work™ is a great way for young people to explore career options and understand the importance of staying in school," says Veronica Lacey, President and CEO of The Learning Partnership. "It's also allows employers to become involved in public education. This is so important because if our future workforce is to have the necessary skills and abilities to compete in an increasingly knowledge-based economy, we not only need the expertise of educators, but the input of business and community partners."
Take Our Kids to Work™ is The Learning Partnership's flagship program, introduced in 1994 and run since then in partnership with Scotiabank.
"Thousands of young students across Canada are about to enter high school this fall and begin the exciting process of considering future career options and corresponding areas of study," said Sylvia Chrominska, Group Head of Global Human Resources and Communications for Scotiabank. "Take Our Kids to Work™ day is an important part of that process because it connects students with the world of work and shows them the skills they will need to succeed. Scotiabank has been proud to sponsor this unique educational program since its inception and we look forward once again to opening our doors to these bright young students!"
Take Our Kids to Work™ day is the culmination of what has become a two-month, multi-faceted, experiential learning program to help Grade 9 students make informed educational decisions. The program also includes The Learning Partnership's Ultimate Dream Job Contest and Canada's Outstanding Employer Awards.
Organizations can register online by going to www.thelearningpartnership.ca and following the 2012 Take Our Kids to Work™ link under Innovative Programs on the home page. There's also information about how parents and educators can get involved in Take Our Kids to Work™ day.
