A new program — known as "Once Upon A Time" — has been developed to expose young children in the School District 54 community to seeing letters and words in print, as well as holding and operating a book.

To foster a love for reading and literacy, two teachers and the librarian from White Oak Elementary School in Morris are doing what they can to get books into the hands of children between the ages of 3 and 5 years old.

A new program — known as "Once Upon A Time" — has been developed to expose young children in the School District 54 community to seeing letters and words in print, as well as holding and operating a book.

"It's an early intervention program to promote kindergarten readiness," said White Oak fifth-grade teacher Jill Leavitt.
