Third-grader Elizabeth Vazquez and her sister spent part of Tuesday listening to stories, checking out books and reading — all in the comfort of their school library.
They were among the dozens of students who streamed into Yoshikai Elementary School to take advantage of its summer library hours.
In all, seven Salem-Keizer school libraries are opening their doors this summer to help students keep their skills sharp. It's the first time the district has launched a coordinated effort to open school libraries during the summer.
